The Number 1220
Steveston Tram Car
For 45 years, tram cars carried people back and forth from the city of Vancouver to neighbouring communities in British Columbia. That all came to a halt in the 1950s, as buses replaced tram cars in British Columbia, much as it happened with their streetcar counterparts in the U.S.
When the trams were decommissioned, many parts were scrapped and the wooden bodies were burned, says Rebecca Forrest, curator of collections for the City of Richmond Museum and Heritage Services.
Only seven of the original 28 1200-class trains commissioned by BC Electric Railway Company exist today. The No. 1220 tram car recently underwent a complete restoration by the City of Richmond.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Vancouver?
Exterior projects with us currently range from $13,500 to $48,000, depending on the size of the home, height, complexity, and number of colours — larger luxury homes cost more.
Interior projects are usually $9-12 per sq ft of floor space, which includes ceilings, walls, closets, and trim. A 2,000 sq ft home typically runs $18,000-$24,000 to paint the interior fully; a 600 sq ft condo runs $5,400-$7,200.
Pricing varies with complexity — crown moulding, wall panel moulding, the amount of prep work needed, and the number of coats required for a finished look.
What's included in your prep process?
We don’t use a generic checklist — every project gets a written, itemized scope of prep work specific to that home before we start painting.
For exterior projects, prep typically includes: cleaning; site protection (tape, plastic, drop sheets); removing and reinstalling hardware like door knobs, downspouts, and lights; scraping and sanding to remove loose paint and smooth surfaces; priming; caulking; patching and spackle; basic wood repairs; epoxy repairs; and glazing putty repairs where needed.
For interior projects, prep typically includes: moving and covering furniture; covering floors, cabinets, appliances, and bathroom fixtures; removing and reinstalling door knobs, blinds, electrical plate covers, and towel rods; filling holes, dents, cracks, and scratches; sanding; caulking gaps; and priming repair areas.
What does your 5-year warranty cover?
We back all of our work with this guarantee: if any interior paint, exterior paint, staining, or wallpaper installation fails within the first 5 years, we’ll provide the labour and materials to fix the affected area for free. For example:
- Peeling paint — we’ll come back, prepare the failed area, and repaint it at no charge.
- A loose or bubbled wallpaper seam — we’ll re-glue the area, or if that doesn’t hold, provide and install replacement wallpaper at no charge.
- Decks and stairs that start to peel before 5 years — we’ll sand and re-coat the affected area for free.
This warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear, or damage from moving, fire, or flooding.
Are you licensed, insured, and WorkSafeBC covered?
Yes. We provide our insurance certificate and WorkSafeBC clearance letter with every quote, and we’re licensed with the City of Vancouver.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
No. Every project is completed by our full-time staff. We don’t pass off our project work to subcontractors.
